Arthur Blaine Hayes, age 80, of Cambridge Springs, PA passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA from complications of congestive heart failure. His family was by his side. Born on February 12, 1937, Arthur was a son of the late Elmo August Hayes and Freda Terrill Hayes.
Arthur was a graduate of Edinboro High School with the Class of 1955. He had owned and operated Art's Atlantic in downtown Edinboro in the early 1960's. He then began a career at Penn Union in Edinboro where he worked for over 30 years, retiring in 1999 as Production Control Supervisor.
Arthur belonged to Oasis Masonic Lodge # 416 of Edinboro. He had been a member and chairman of the Washington Township Planning Commission for over 20 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and particularly enjoyed hunting with his family. He had been restoring his grandfather - Lee Hayes' 1938 John Deere B tractor and had previously restored a 1967 Cadillac Coup de Ville. Art was known as the "King of Karaoke", was a man of few words, but offered his own bits of wisdoms known as "Art-isms".
Surviving Art is his wife, the former Gloria Janet Waclawik, whom he married on March 7, 1959; two daughters - Shari Gould and her husband John of Edinboro and Cynthia Waldinger of Cambridge Springs; a son - Bryan Hayes and his wife, Beth of Valparaiso, IN; four grandsons -Matthew Hayes and his wife, Brittany; Wesley Gould; Adam Hayes and his fiancée, Rachel James; and Cody Gould; and a granddaughter- Melody Waldinger. Also surviving is a sister - Darlene Schieber of Corning, NY and a brother, Gary Hayes and his wife, Lorraine of Edinboro.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Tuesday, May 23rd from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Rod Beardsley, pastor of Cambridge Springs First Baptist Church, officiating.
