Barbara Lou Heard, age 91, was born February 5, 1926 to the late Lewis and Shirley McLallen McGahen. She graduated in 1943 from Waterford Joint High School and worked at Metric Metal in Erie, PA. After her marriage to Merle Heard in 1944, together they owned and managed the Gem Restaurant and then Heard's Sugar Bowl in Waterford. Merle served in the U.S. Navy and afterwards they moved to Toledo, OH for five years while he attended the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy. She and Merle joined a 500 Card Club in 1955 and enjoyed friends and cards for over 60 years.
