Barbara's Story

Text size

The Lord called Barbara, 96, home June 1, 2017. Born in Eagle River, WI and raised on the family farm in Saegertown, she was the last surviving member of the family. Preceded in death by sisters Mary Braun, Josephine Grayson, Jean Styborski, brothers Martin and Steve Dasovich and grandchild Dionne Allen.
Barbara worked for Viscose in the forties, went on to raise her family and worked retail sales for Montgomery Ward for 22 years. Upon her retirement she traveled throughout the states and was a Meadville Medical Auxiliary volunteer. She always had an intense interest in health and alternative medicines and could quote a home remedy for any ailment. She loved to read and kept up with world events. Many fun filled summer vacations were spent on the Maryland shore with daughters and grandchildren. Flowers were her passion and she shared them with friends and neighbors. Her yard was always in bloom.
Barbara was blessed to have the longtime friendship of former neighbor Ruth Wallace. Together they attended many fun filled bingo games and traveled together as far away as Hawaii.
Our mother will always be missed, always loved and always remembered.
She is survived by daughters Helen Garrigus, Warren, OH and Joan (Dan) Taylor, Finleyville, PA. Grandchildren, Robert Garrigus, CA, Mark (Wanda) Garrigus, MO, Samantha Allen of NV and Chad Allen of PA. Great grandchildren Shelby Garrigus, MO, Rex and Revel Fairbanks, NV and several nieces and nephews.
With respect to her wishes no calling hours will be observed.
The family wishes to express its gratitude for the exceptional care and kindness of the staff at Hillside Home and suggests gifts in her memory be made to the Wesbury Benevolent Care Foundation.
