Betty Jean Boyle, age 97, of 26598 Gravel Run Road, Cambridge Springs passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Meadville Medical Center.
She was born on July 4, 1920, a daughter of the late Rae (Bertram) and Rudd Townley. Betty was raised and educated in Richmond Township, Crawford County, PA. After graduating from high school, she graduated from Erie Commercial College. She worked many years at Talon in Meadville where she met her husband, Harold (Chum) Earl Boyle. They were married on August 31, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1968. In her later years she worked at GTI in Saegertown and Hadley, PA. She was an active member of New Richmond United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star in Cambridge Springs, and Pinney's Corners Ladies Aide. Family always came first with Betty being very devoted and loving to them on the Townley-Boyle Farm.
In addition to her parents and husband-Chum, Betty was preceded in death by her grandson - Jake Boyle; grandson-in-law - Glen Johnston; sisters-in-law - Helen Townley, Ruth Walton, Mildred Miller, Agnes Boyle and Rose Boyle; brothers-in-law - Lew Walton, Ralph Miller, and Edward Boyle.
Betty is survived by her son - Gary Boyle and his wife, Yvonne, her granddaughter - Tammy Johnston, her grandson - Ryan Boyle, a brother - George Townley, nieces - Laurie Shearer, and Lois Proper, a nephew - Paul Townley, and great nieces - Lisa Kurt and Renee Mallory whom she was very close, and a great nephew - Jeffrey Shearer. Also surviving are a brother-in-law - Donald Boyle, and several other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Monday, November 6 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 7 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Harry Zurasky of the New Richmond United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held at the Gravel Run Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Maplewood High School Jake Boyle Scholarship Fund or to the Maplewood High School Baseball Boosters.
