Bridget's Story

Bridget Ann Sheehan, 62, of Meadville, PA passed away Oct. 30, 2017. She was the winning-est coach in the history of Allegheny's College athletics, but she could not defeat cancer.
Bridget was born September 25, 1955 in Meadville, PA to the late James B. Sheehan and Shirley D. Sheehan. She graduated Cochranton High School in 1973, was a 1977 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and a 1990 Master of Science Degree in Sports Administration. She was assistant Controller and Production Manager at Drafto Corporation. Recruited and hired as an accountant for Aetna Machine Company, where she became Vice President of Operations, Chief Operating Officer and finally, President of Aetna Machine Company. During this time she coached basketball for Cochranton High School and volleyball and Maplewood High School.
In 1986 Bridget was hired at Allegheny College to coach volleyball part-time. She went on to serve as the Gator volleyball coach for 30 years until her retirement due to illness. Her Allegheny team became her passion and she dedicated her life to the student athletes she coached and the game she loved. Bridget became a three time North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, with 4 NCAC Titles, and 4 times qualifying for NCAA Division 3 Nationals. In addition, Bridget is the only volleyball coach in North Coast Athletic Conference history to surpass 600 career wins. Her many achievements as a coach were acknowledged recently at her induction into Allegheny College's Hall of Fame on October 21, 2017. Prior to that, Bridget was inducted into Slippery Rock University's Hall of Fame in 2008 for her post graduate accomplishments.
Bridget is survived by her mother, Shirley Sheehan, a sister, Sherry Mason and her husband, Wally, a brother, Alan M. Sheehan and a brother, James B. Sheehan Jr. and his wife Bernadette, niece Katy Peterson, two nephews, Mick and Ty Sheehan, and dear friend, Laurel Heilman.
Viewing will be held Friday at Dickson Family Funeral Home, 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton, PA 16314 from 4 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10:30 AM at Ford Chapel, North Main Street, Allegheny College, Meadville, PA 16335. The Reverend Doctor Jane Ellen Nickell, Chaplain, officiating. Interment will be at Cochranton Cemetery following services.
