Daniel L. Cheers, 74, of Cochranton, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at UPMC Hamot in Erie after a sudden illness. Born, November 27, 1942 in Butler, he was the son of Merle and Mildred Schreckengost Cheers. He married Linda Deeter on February 1, 1964 and she survives.
He was a 1960 graduate of Franklin High School and enlisted in the US Army where he served three years active duty and 2 years in the reserves until his honorable discharge in 1966.
Daniel went to Philadelphia for truck driving training and returned home and worked for several trucking companies, including Baker's, Rhoades and Penske. He also was a carpenter and enjoyed woodworking, playing the banjo, fishing and golfing.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 53 years include two daughters, Wendy Helgert and her husband Curt of Meadville, Cindy Stitt and her husband Daryl of Michigan and a son Scott Cheers and his wife Esther of Oregon. His mother, Mildred of Franklin, a brother, Glenn Cheers and his wife Judy of Cochranton. Eight grandchildren, Greg Sykes, Trista Hintz and her husband Fred, Jessie Helgert, Nathan Helgert and his wife Ali, Alyson Stitt, Abigail Stitt, Anne McCartney and her husband Mac, and Katelyn Cheers and two great grandchildren, Milo McCartney and MaryJane Cheers-Santos.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Friends and family will be received at the DICKSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton on Sunday, September 10, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm. The funeral service will be 11:00am, Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Douglas Strawn of Canal Wesleyan Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Peters Cemetery, Canal Township, Venango County.
