Daniel E. Weaver of Ledyard, CT, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Hartford Hospital, at the young age of 60. He was born in Meadville on September 2, 1957, the eldest son of the late Ralph E. Weaver, Jr. and Joanne Martin Weaver. He graduated from Meadville Area Senior High School in 1975 where he excelled on both the varsity cross country and swimming teams and was a reporter for the school newspaper. He attended Clarion University and graduated from Allegheny College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication. In 2009, he married Lee Moore Jr., with whom he shared his life for 32 years.
Dan had an outstanding career in television as an Emmy award-winning Talk Show Producer, with credits that include The Geraldo Rivera Show, Phil Donahue and Entertainment Tonight. Dan always said his proudest moment in television was creating the "Aftercare" program with Geraldo and Jamie Huysman, a psychiatric social worker, which offered "follow up" counseling to guests who revealed their troubled lives to the TV audience.
Eager to share his insider knowledge, experience and success, Dan also taught courses about working in television, most notably at the annual Donna Reed Performing Arts Festival in Denison, Iowa. In 1998, his book "Breaking into Television" was published with advice and stories from former interns-turned-producers as they launched their careers.
He was a member of the Congregational Church in Ledyard, CT, often serving as Deacon, and volunteered hours at the local Food Pantry.
Dan was a storyteller who used many mediums to tell people's stories. This, along with his creativity, enthusiasm and quick humor will be greatly missed. He is survived by husband, Lee Moore, Jr., of Ledyard, CT.; his mother, Joanne Weaver of Meadville; a sister, Stephanie Cares and brother-in-law, Gregg, of Warwick, RI; a sister, Randi of London, England; a brother, Michael of Meadville, PA; a brother, Ralph of Lake Wales, FL; a brother, James of Millsboro, DE, a brother-in-law, Donald Collins of Meadville, PA; an uncle, William J. Martin III of Eighty-Four, PA and numerous treasured nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Cindy Collins, of Meadville and an infant, Heather.
A memorial service will be held in Meadville during the summer of 2018. Memorial donations may be made in Dan's name to the Ledyard Congregational Church, 722 Colonel Ledyard Highway, Ledyard, CT 06339, Attention: Ledyard Food Pantry.
