Dema's Story

Dema G. (Rhoades) Vaughn, 81 of Cochranton, PA passed away at her home on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Utica, PA on April 13, 1936 to Floyd Rhoades, Sr and Edna (Cotterman) Rhoades. Dema married Gerald "Jerry" Vaughn on July 5, 1958 and he survives.
Dema graduated from Franklin High School and was a homemaker, as well as, a babysitter. She was a baptized at Deckards United Methodist Church and became a member of the church in 1949. When she was younger, she taught children's Sunday school, Bible school, Junior church, and adult Sunday school. She was head of the funeral dinners and meals for anyone going home from the hospital. Dema was an excellent cook, always trying something new and the family usually liked it.
She enjoyed reading her Bible and devotions, spending time with family, was an avid gardener loved to can what she grew. Dema was also a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors in addition to her husband, include daughters, Geri Young of Meadville, and Judy Vaughn of Cochranton and son Mark Vaughn of Conneaut Lake. She is also survived by three sisters and one brother: Virginia Clevenger of Cochranton, Wanda Ferry and her husband Paul of Utica, Linda Brumagin and her husband, Marlen of Meadville and Floyd Rhodes Jr and his wife Joyce of Meadville. Also surviving are two grandchildren: Tiffany Smith and her husband, Shawn of Franklinville, NY and Austin Young of Meadville, three great grandchildren: Kayla Young, Shea Smith and JT Young, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Dema was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Paul, Kenneth and Lloyd Rhoades and her sisters, Trella Dolan, and Donna Colwell and a son-in-law Duane Young.
Dema's family would like to thank Peggy Rodgers and Dawn Sochor and Hospice of Crawford County for the wonderful care they gave her during the last weeks of her illness.
Friends and family may call at Dickson Family Funeral Home, Inc, 123 South Franklin St., Cochranton, PA on Thursday, January 4th from 4pm to 7pm. The funeral will be Friday, January 5, at the Deckards United Methodist Church at 11:00 am with the Rev. Frank Weingard presiding. Burial will be in Cochranton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Deckards United Methodist Church or Hospice of Crawford County.
