Dr. James R. Kelso
He married Janet (Johnson) Paris on October 13, 1979. She survives.
Jim graduated from Meadville High School in 1960 where he was a member of the varsity baseball team. He earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Texas Chiropractic College in San Antonio on May 28, 1965. Jim returned to Meadville to work with his mentor and close friend, Dr. "Doc" Olson, subsequently establishing his own practice on Franklin Pike in 1967. He reluctantly retired in 2013.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Crawford Lodge #234. In addition to serving many members of the community through his chiropractic practice, his love of airplanes inspired him to take flying lessons at the Greenville Airport, becoming a private pilot in the early 1980's. Jim spent many summer days riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, playing golf, and flying radio-controlled airplanes.
Jim loved sports, especially football, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In the late 1970's and early 1980's during Meadville Wrestling tournaments, he was the go-to Doc on the mat. Jim liked car shows, 'old time' rock and blues music, historical documentaries, current events, dancing, and dogs. He enjoyed many precious moments with his great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife Janet Kelso, Jim is survived by his two daughters Sharon Collins (James) of Conneaut Lake and Deborah Kelso (Scott Godsave) of Linesville whom he shared with former spouse, Carol (Johnke) Kelso; his grandchildren Joseph Kelso (Samantha d'Happart) of Meadville and their daughters, Makaylah, Aubriella, and Omarah Kelso; Joshua Kelso (Mackenzie Collier) of Berea, OH, his son Kellan Arpin of Conneaut Lake, and their son Pryce Kelso; and Justin Kelso of Erie; his sister in law Verna Evans of Cedar Park, TX; his nieces Linda Hambrick of Jonestown, TX, Lois Evans of Cedar Park, TX, and Barbara Kysor of Andice, TX; and many great nieces and nephews.
He is further survived by his four stepchildren Eileen Wilkinson (David), Joseph Paris, Bryan Paris (Dianna), and Vince Paris (Melinda); his step-grandchildren Christopher Wilkinson (Brittany) and their children Haleigh and Brooks Wilkinson; Justin Wilkinson (Taylor) and their daughter Lillian Wilkinson, Anthony Paris (Kirsten), and Nicholas Paris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former spouse Carol (Johnke) Kelso (1993), brother Paul Evans, sister Edith Mae Fausnaught, and a nephew William Evans.
The funeral service was private at the direction of his wife and held at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville, on Monday, December 17, 2018.
Burial was held in Venango Cemetery.
