Gary E. Cauvel, 78, of Meadville died Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the Meadville Medical Center. Born in Meadville he was the son of Clarence and Opal Hart Cauvel. He married Dorothy McMunn on May 14, 1972 and she survives.
He was a 1957 graduate of Cochranton High School and enlisted in the US Air Force after graduation, where he served for 4 years.
After his service he worked at the former Viscose for 25 years and also worked at Advanced Cast until his retirement.
He was a former member of the Meadville VFW, Meadville Eagles and West Mead Fire Department, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. He also cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, and children, John Cauvel and his wife Amy of Crestline, OH, Connie Shartle and her husband John of Meadville and Lonnie Cauvel and his companion, Cindy Watson of Guys Mills, Victor Morehead of Meadville, Theresa Greer of Linesville, and Terry Cleaver and her husband Marty of South Carolina. Two brothers, Larry Cauvel of Youngsville and Donald Cauvel of Rocky Grove, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ronald Cauvel and a sister Sandra Rhoades.
Friends and family will be received at the DICKSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton on Sunday from 4PM until 7PM when the Rev. Temple Jarrell of the New Beginning Church in Meadville will conduct a Celebration of Life Service.
Memorial contributions can be made in Gary's name to the local Veterans Administration, 16954 Conneaut Lake, Rd., Meadville.
