Gerald W. (Jerry) Merritt, age 81 a life-long resident of Venango, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Meadville Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born February 13, 1937 in Venango, the son of the late Donald W. Merritt and Meta Houy Merritt. He met the love of his life, Adrienne J. Mehlo when she would visit her half-sisters restaurant in Cambridge Springs. They were married on October 12, 1957 at the Venango United Methodist Church, and had celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
He was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed watching television, especially Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and the CNN station. He loved his pet dogs, GiGi, Pennie, Puglsey and all of his fur grandchildren. He had served many years on Venango Borough Council. He had worked as a spinner at the former Avtex Fibers in Meadville until they closed. He then went to work for Guzik Concrete and Masonry, Union City until his time of retirement.
Jerry is survived by, two daughters: Catherine A. Smith, of Venango, PA, Deborah S. Zimmer of Venango, PA, three sons: David W. Merritt of Springboro, PA, his twin sons: Kevin G. Merritt and his wife Regina P. of Cochranton, PA and Kenneth G. Merritt of Venango, PA, six grandchildren: Jesse Merritt and his fiancé Maureen Baisley of Lake Waccamaw, NC, Jeremy Smith and his wife Rosalie of Virginia, Beach, VA, Justin Smith of Venango, Katlyn Zimmer of Venango, Alison Merritt of Cochranton, and Abigail Merritt of Cochranton, a great grand-daughter: Ashley Merritt of Saegertown, his brother: Donald L. Merritt and his wife Lois of Venango. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and cousins,
In addition to his parents and his wife, Jerry was preceded in death by a sister: Geraldine Judy Leslie.
Family and friends are welcome to call on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm and on Wednesday from 11 am until time of the funeral service at 12 noon at the Kenneth G. Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory, 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville, PA 16335 (814) 720-3193, with Pastor David Brumagin and Pastor Marshall Lilly, officiating. Inurnment will be in the Venango Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
