Gregory Gordon Carpenter, 67, of Meadville died peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at his Meadville residence.
Gregory was born January 7, 1950 in Detroit, MI, to the late Gordon Edward Carpenter and Catherine Norma Carpenter.
From the University of Ohio he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. As the founder of Pyrotech Services (Townville, PA) he designed, built and supplied specialized industrial furnaces and related equipment to a variety of industries in the USA and internationally.
An avid lifelong hockey player, referee, and youth hockey coach, Gregory was honored in 2012 by the Crawford County Youth Hockey Association as the "Cornerstone of Meadville Hockey".
His love of motorcycles and riding was balanced by his work as a certified motorcycle safety training instructor.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, and the music of folk singer Stan Rogers. He was an animal lover - and an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Gregory is survived by Gretchen Myers, his partner of two decades, of Meadville; his sons Julian Carpenter of Ann Arbor, MI and Cameron Carpenter, of Berlin, Germany; their mother, Patricia Lynn Carpenter, of Winston-Salem, NC; his sister Norma Becker (Heinz) of Gladwin, MI; and his brother John Carpenter (Doris), of Tallahassee, FL.
Calling hours are this Wednesday, October 25, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., immediately followed by a memorial gathering at 7 p.m., all at the Hatheway-Tedesco Funeral Home at 614 Baldwin Street, Meadville.
