Harvey G. Firster
Born February 23, 1935 in Stoneboro, he was son of Frank H. and Marie E. Wood Firster.
Mr. Firster was a 1954 graduate of Hickory High School and then in 1956 enlisted and served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1958.
Harvey followed in his father's footsteps and became a railroader. He began by working for the New York Central System, then Penn Central and then retired from Conrail after 30 years as a brakeman and conductor in the railroad. While working with the railroad, he was a member and local representative for the United Transportation Union, (UTU).
In earlier years he was an avid hunter and loved collecting and restoring old cars and he enjoyed socializing with friends.
His wife, the former Helen R. Swogger, whom he married June 5, 1961, survives; also surviving are two daughters: Denise R. (David) Huffman, Cochranton, Pa, Becky R. (Kelley) Armburger, Shelby, North Carolina and two sons: Keith G. (Denise) Firster, Martinez, Georgia and Mark G. (Lori) Firster, Sadieville, Kentucky; also fourteen grandchildren: Matthew and Monica Huffman, Michelle Woodrow, Christopher Firster, Brandon Powell, Blaine and Blake Hanley, Zachary, Nichol and Stephanie Bizjak, Isabel, Abigail, Madelyn and Miles Firster and four great grandchildren; also two sisters: Mae Barwell, Stoneboro and Elsie Boughner, Mercer, Pa and a brother Ralph Firster, Inverness, Florida.
In addition to his parents, an infant sister Violet Firster and a brother Walter Driscoll, preceded him in death.
Calling Hours: 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM, Thursday (4-27-17) in the Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Friday (4-28-17) in the funeral home with Rev. Adam J. Rodgers, Pastor, Stoneboro Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment & Committal Service: New Lebanon Cemetery, Mill Creek Township.
