James Richard Willoughby, age 90, of Meadville, passed away on September 3, 2017 at the Meadville Medical Center. He was born in Pitcairn, Allegheny County, PA on December 9th, 1926: the son of Frederick Willoughby and Anna Smeltzer Willoughby. James married Eleanor Joan Weisman on November 11, 1953 and she passed on January 16, 2014.
He retired from Talon (a Division of Textron) after 50 years as a machinist. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II and he served during the Korean Conflict.
James was a member and past Commander of VFW Post 2006 and served as the Past Quarter Master of the Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a volunteer firefighter with the West Mead Volunteer Fire Department.
He had a green thumb and was an avid gardener, a wood worker, hunter, and fisherman. James absolutely loved the PITTSBURGH PIRATES, and the PITTSBURGH STEELERS.
Survivors include: one daughter Carol McCain of Meadville; two sons: David Willoughby of Meadville; Donald Willoughby and his wife Naomi of Saegertown, six grandchildren: Brian Willoughby and his partner ChelseĆ” Robey of Maryland; Allan Rounds of Meadville; Ian Willoughby of Philadelphia; Angellica Trace of Cleveland, Ohio; Brienna McCain of Meadville; and Hunter Gipson of Meadville; and three great grandchildren: Holden Rounds, Ellora Rounds, and Rhys Rounds, a great-great-granddaughter: RosaleeĆ” Marie Willoughby, a stepdaughter: Linda Eaglehouse and her husband Tom of Greensburg, PA, a step-granddaughter: Alexandra Eaglehouse.
James is also survived by two sisters: Ethel Dittrich and her husband William of Naples, Florida and Colly Beck of Havelock, NC.
In addition to his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Shannon Parker, a great grandson: Kyle Parker, a brother: Frederick Jr. and a sister: Margaret Daughenbaugh.
Family and friends are welcome to call on Friday from 6PM until time of the memorial service at 7 PM with Pastor Rich King, of the Living Waters Church, officiating.
