Lloyd's Story

Lloyd X. "Gus" Baker, age 89, of 257 South Main Street, Cambridge Springs since 1999, died January 21, 2018 at Meadville Medical Center. He was born in Woodcock, PA on March 8, 1928 to Earnest and Alice Johnson Baker. Lloyd graduated from Cambridge Springs High School and then served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948. He was employed as a stone mason and worked with the Laborer's Union International of North America Local 964 of Pittsburgh, PA from 1958 until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid fishermen.
Gus was the eldest of his three sisters: Rachel Smith, Virginia Lewis, and Mary Jane Williams; and his two brothers, Bill Baker and Earnest Baker, Jr.
He is survived by his niece, Cheryll Leopold of Clearwater, FL; a nephew, Bill Leopold of Girard, PA; a nephew, Rudy Leopold of Murphy, N.C; a niece, Toni Daughenbaugh of Hudson, FL; and a niece, Sondra Fitch of Cambridge Springs, PA.
Friends are invited to call at the Van Matre Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Thursday, January 25, 2018, from 12 to 3 p.m. Interment will be at Venango Cemetery. To send condolences please visit vanmatrefuneralhome.com.
