Magdalene  Steigerwald


Magdalene "Maggie" Steigerwald, 88, of Springboro passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Rolling Fields Eldercare Community. She was born February 15, 1930 on the family farm in Spring Township, a daughter of the late Constantine and Elizabeth (Shaffer) Varee. She married John Steigerwald on August 29, 1953. He preceded her in death May 23, 1980.
Maggie was the valedictorian of Springboro High School class of 1949. She worked in the office of Albro Packing upon graduation. She also worked at Edinboro University and retired from the Pennsylvania State Employment office as a claims examiner. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church where she was also involved in the Altar and Rosary Society, church choir and the Crawford County Cursillo. She enjoyed singing, reading, sewing and gardening. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all of them.
She is survived by seven children, Theresa (Ricky) Motter, David (Connie) Steigerwald, Delores (Randy) Hale, Christine (Douglas) Jordan, Michael (Kelly) Steigerwald, Stephen (Lori) Steigerwald and Carolyn (Kevin) Hall, 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to raising their 7 children they opened their home to Mike Schley. He lived with them for 4 years, and they considered him one of their own. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Schweller, Kathryn (Katie) Varee, Mary Varee and Elizabeth (Betty) Varee.
In addition to her parents and husband, Maggie is preceded in death by all of her siblings, Constantine, Barbara, John, Joseph, Frank, Anna, and Nicholas Varee, Kathryn Martin, Margaret Slubowski, Elizabeth Lehman, and Frances Fenn.
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 1:00 - 5:00 PM at McCauley Funeral Home 1405 Main Street Conneautville, PA 16406. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018, at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 501 Washington Street, Conneautville at 11:00 AM. with Fr. Chris Hamlett officiating. Interment to follow in Spring Cemetery.
Arrangements are in the care of McCauley Funeral Home 1405 Main St. Conneautville, PA 16406.
