Mary's Story

Mary Louise Madison of Fishers IN, passed away, Tuesday August 29th, 2017 after a hard fought, courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Meadville, on June 27th, 1941 to Wilbur and Lillian Forsner Madison.
Marylou spent her early childhood living in Cleveland until the family moved to Jamestown, New York where she lived until graduating from high school. She attended Taylor University in Upland, Indiana and graduated from Houghton College in 1963. She began a teaching career in Treverton, PA and then taught in the Chicago area then in Valparaiso IN. While in Valparaiso, she attended Valparaiso University where she earned a Masters in Elementary Education. She then moved to Meadville where she taught for ten years before relocating to New Bern, NC. While in North Carolina, she attended East Carolina University to get a Masters in Library Science. She spent the next ten years as a librarian in the public schools of Havelock and Morehead City, NC. In 1997 she moved to Ohio where she owned a gift shop before moving to Indianapolis where she became the Circulation manager at the Public Library in Fishers, IN until her retirement.
Marylou never passed up an opportunity to travel and visited many places in the United States and Europe. She loved the outdoors; loved to read; and had a strong appreciation for music. She was an active member of Geist Christian Church in Indianapolis and was always grateful for the love and encouragement shown her by the church during her battle with cancer.
She is survived by four children: Stephanie Broadus of Fishers, IN, Douglas Powell (Brenda) of Meadville, Lisa Early (Michael) of Boulder, CO, and Matt Powell (Heather) of Noblesville, IN. She also was a wonderful Grandmother to her ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild; all who will miss her greatly. She is also survived by one sister: Carole Madison of Meadville and one brother: Peter Madison of North Carolina.
There will be a visitation on Saturday September 9th, from 11 am to 1 pm followed by a funeral service at the Geist Christian Church - 8550 Mud Creek Rd, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be made to Geist Christian Church 8550 Mud Creek Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46256 or the St. Vincent's Gyn. Oncology Unit, 8402 Harcourt Rd., Suite 2010, Indianapolis, IN 46260.
