Raymond's Story

Raymond C. Howard Jr. (68) of Conneaut Lake, PA passed away on Tuesday June 5 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. after a hard fought battle with mucormycosis. He was born on April 28, 1950 in Pittsburgh and he attended Perry High School, before serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was employed as a City of Pittsburgh Fireman until an injury forced him off the job.
Raymond was a Member of Hartstown Pumphouse #45 and Conneaut Lake Station #3. He was a very kind-hearted person who loved his family and was especially proud of his grandson Derek and loved attending his hockey games. He loved making people smile and enjoyed every event and would try to make it to the dance floor for every dance. He also enjoyed his hunting camp that he and his family members built from the ground up. He was an extreme lover of labs and especially his Shadow, who was always with him.
He is survived by his wife Carol (Courtney) Howard of Conneaut Lake, his son Raymond Howard III of Conneaut Lake, his grandsons Derek Howard of Pittsburgh and Shane Shults of Phuket, Thailand, his granddaughter Kyla Howard of Pittsburgh, his step-sons Dan Shults of Conneaut Lake and James Shults of Pittsburgh, his mother and father in-law Mary and DeWayne Horne of Jamestown, and his brother-in-laws Lawrence Luff of Pittsburgh, Kenny (Barb) Staudenmaier of Conneaut Lake, Tom (Cathie) Courtney of Conneaut Lake, Bob Courtney of Atlantic, and his sister-in-laws Donna (Ron) Brown of Greenville and Terry (Dale) Schlosser of Conneaut Lake and Special Friends Randy & Deb Miller of Volant, Vern & Donna Smith of Butler, John & Linda McClure of Pittsburgh, and Bonnie Kroniser of Linesville. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond C. Howard Sr., his mother Laverne (Luba) Juba Howard, his son Gregory Howard, his brother Mark Howard and his sisters Linda (Howard) Luff, Becky (Howard) Barnett and Kathryn (Howard) Staudenmaier. He was also preceded in death by his wife Karen (Williamson) Howard and his great buddies Jack (Fibber) McKee and Norman Kroniser.
Visitation hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 on Thursday, with Firemen Honors presented during the evening at the Dickson Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N Second Street, Conneaut Lake. The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Interment, with full Military Honors presented by VFW Post 2006, Meadville, will be at the Rocky Glen Cemetery in Adamsville, PA.
