Raymond's Story

Raymond Thomas (Tom) McEntire Jr., age 84, of Leach Rd. Conneaut Lake, PA, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2017 at Marquette Hospice House, Meadville, PA. Tom was born May 25, 1932 to the late Raymond Thomas, Sr. and Emma Calvin McEntire on the now 215 year old McEntire Farm which is located in E. Fallowfield Twp.
Tom graduated from Pymatuning Joint High School located in Jamestown, PA in 1951. He served in the US Army in Korea, receiving his sharpshooter and good conduct awards. Following discharge, Tom served 6 years in the active reserves.
While running the family farm, Tom drove bus for 26 years for OD Anderson and the Conneaut Lake School District. He worked at the Greenville Steel Car and served as a township road supervisor. Tom was a 50 year member of the Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church and a 60 year member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge #1128 in Atlantic.
Tom greatly enjoyed all aspects of farm life, traditional family gatherings, helping his neighbors, and long conversations with family and friends. He was loving to his family, an inspiration to many, and a friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by 5 sisters: Doris Skelton Boomer of Erie, PA; Rachel Sper Mykrantz of Chardon, OH; Ruth Cowan of San Francisco, CA; E. Lydia Caskey of Warren, OH; JoAnn (Bob) Justice of Chardon, OH, 13 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, and 5 great-great nieces and nephews.
Preceding Tom in death in addition to his parents was an infant brother James F. McEntire.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 21 from 4-7PM at Dickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 130 N. Second St. Conneaut Lake, PA. An additional hour for callers will be from Noon until 1PM on Monday, May 22, at the Presbyterian Church of Conneaut Lake. The funeral will follow at 1PM with Pastor Sam Heagy officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Conneaut Lake Presbyterian Church 145 S. 5th St. P.O Box 150, Conneaut Lake, PA or a charity of the donors choice.
