Robert Bruce Milner 86, of Conneautville PA, died Friday September 1, 2017 at Meadville Medical Center.
He was born October 7, 1930 in Jamestown NY to Edward Bruce and Florence Houser Milner.
He graduated from Jamestown NY High School in 1948 and attended Brown University in Providence RI on a ROTC scholarship. He graduated from Brown in 1952 and was stationed with the USMC at Twenty Nine Palms CA.
He married Nancy J. Gadhue September 19, 1953.
Robert was an accomplished musician and played several musical instruments. Over the years he directed church choirs, sang in the Mendelssohn Choir in Pittsburgh PA, and enjoyed both jazz music and his extensive collection of classical music.
Robert was a life long learner and an avid reader.
Robert's passion, however, was gardening. From organic gardening to researching and hybridizing Iris and Daylilies, he lovingly planted gardens everywhere he lived - always leaving behind something more beautiful and passing on his love for flowers and gardening to many of his children and grandchildren. Consequently Robert has left a legacy of beauty that stretches across the country.
Robert was a Master Gardener and a member of the American Hemerocallis Society, where he has had several Daylilies named and registered.
Robert is survived by his wife Nancy, a sister Shirley Milner in Lake City FL, five children: Russell Milner in Sumter SC, David (Jeanne) Milner in St. Thomas, VI, Penny Gledhill in Cochranton PA, Nanette (Thomas) Smith in Longview TX, Amy (Sal) D'Onofrio in Hermitage PA, 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
A private service for the family is being planned.
