William's Story

William N. Ott, 94, of 12713 Lakeside Drive, Conneaut Lake, PA, died on May 28, 2017 at his home.
He was born on April 24, 1923, in Titusville, PA to George and Martha Ott and had a brother George. He was preceded in death by his first wife Rebecca and had two children Carrie and Richard.
Bill is survived by his wife Marie Ott who he has been married to for over 20 years and two step children Gina & John Ferraro of Meadville, PA; Richard & Lisa Guerrini of Cranberry Township, PA and two grandchildren Sam and Gabriella Guerrini. In addition, Bill's dear friends Gary & Cindy Smock who's support and friendship are invaluable to both Bill and Marie.
Bill was in the US Air Force from 1942-1946 and served as an All Craft engine mechanic in World War II. He was employed for many years at his family business Ott's Automotive Equipment. He also worked until the age of 80 at John Rugala Chevrolet in Andover Ohio.
Bill lived life to the fullest and was known for his love of speed and racing. He traveled the country extensively as a nationally ranked power boat racer. In 1954 in front of a crowd of over 20,000 people, Bill won the 1954 national speedboat championship at Laurel Lake in Millville, NJ. He repeated as national champion in 1955. Bill was elected to the Gulf Marine Racing Hall of Fame in 1954 and held numerous world speed records for his class. In addition, he was a professional factory snowmobile racer for Polaris.
Bill was an avid motorcyclist well into his 80s and owned several Harley Davidson motorcycles. He enjoyed riding with his wife and friends. Bill is well known for his skills as a handyman and could build and fix most anything in his extensive workshop.
Bill lived his life as a participant, not a spectator. He lived with a competitive fire to win. He would often say "Second place...nobody remembers, third place...forget about it"
Private family services will be held at Tedesco Funeral Home in Conneaut Lake, PA per his request. He will be buried at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Meadville, PA.
The family will receive friends at their home located at 12713 Lakeside Drive, Conneaut Lake, PA on Tuesday May 30th between 5:00 - 7:00pm.
