A.'s Story

A. Lawrence Spencer, 81, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Arista Care at Park Avenue.
He was born July 15, 1935 in Meadville, a son of Albert and Sophia Duerr Spencer. He married Layne Davis December 6, 1958 and she survives.
Larry was a 1953 graduate of Meadville High School and attended the RCA Institute in New York City for 2 years. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1955 to 1957. He began his career working for AT&T in Pittsburgh for 5 years, then in sales for AT&T in Washington, D.C. for 5 years, and was promoted to sales supervisor in Wilmington, DE. In 1975, Larry returned to Meadville to run Duerr's Flowers.
He was very family oriented, loved spending time with his grandchildren, family vacations to the beach, and enjoyed taking care of his yard and flowers.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Layne of 58 years, include three sons, Keith Spencer and his wife Stacie of New Market, MD, Scott Spencer and his wife Yvonne of Damascus, MD, and Craig Spencer of Meadville; a daughter, Lisa Stockton and Mark Weber of Meadville; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Madi Spencer, Jeffrey Spencer and his wife Alex, Sara and Timmy Spencer, Clayton and Meghan Stockton, and Cohl Weber; two sisters, Marguerite L. Spencer of Davis, CA and Dorothy K. Betts and her husband Bill of Meadville; a brother, William Spencer and his wife Angie of Houston, TX; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday, June 2nd from 4 to 7 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
The funeral service will be Saturday, June 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Mark O'Hern officiating and military honors provided by Cochranton American Legion Post 836.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
