John Eugene Turner, age 76, lifelong resident of Cambridge Springs, PA passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA after an one week illness.
Born in Canonsburg, PA, John was a son of the late Walter Francis Turner and Elsie Cool Turner. He married the former Patricia A. Porter on September 10, 1966 and she survives.
Following John's education at Cambridge Springs High School, he entered the military serving his country in the U S Army from 1963 until 1969. Following his military service, John worked at H.J. Finck in Cambridge Springs until 1979 when he and his best friend, Ernie Davison, purchased the business renaming it to Cambridge Springs Tire which he continued to operate until retiring in 2003. Even though John retired, he was the first person to arrive and the last person to leave providing his time and support in the running of the business until the present. While at the shop John enjoyed feeding and taking care of his pet dogs and cats and making bacon sandwiches.
John was a member of First Christian Church in Meadville and was a loving husband and father. He passionately supported all of his grandchildren in whatever sport or activity they were involved. He enjoyed camping, visiting the casinos, and bowling.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, John is survived by three children - John E. Turner, Jr. (Valerie), Jason T. Turner (Tonya), and Tricia L. Kurt (Kevin); his six grandchildren - John E. Turner, III, Mackenzie P. Turner, Mackayla L. Kurt, Sabre K. Turner, Turner C. Kurt, and Ty W. Turner, all living in Cambridge Springs. Also surviving are four sisters - Betty Adam (Daniel), Daisy Luchansky (Ronald), Mary Clark (T.J.), and Edie Letherby (Phil); three brothers - James Turner, Roy Turner, and Walter Turner; and further survived by father-in-law Clifford Porter (Shirley), brother-in-law David Porter (Maria); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister- Anna Mayer and mother-in-law, Helen Porter.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Wednesday, May 31st from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be held there on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Darrell Greenaway, pastor of the Saegertown United Methodist Church, officiating.
