Two weeks ago yesterday, with heavy hearts and incredible sadness, we buried our father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Arthur Leroy Sorger, whom we affectionately called "Papa." Arthur was a wonderful man, solid as a rock, a hard worker, a man we always looked up to.

Although our grief will be with us always in our loss, we do have comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with our mother, Shirley, whom he took care of for 48 years as she suffered from MS. We would like to thank at this time, all those who attended his services, sent flowers and/or offered words of sympathy. A special thank you to Kim Smith, who provided an abundance of beautiful fresh-cut flowers for the services.

Of course we can never begin to thank Mr. Steve Milner enough for the wonderful experience that we had of helping dress Dad and preparing him for his viewing services. Along with all of the special arrangements he helped us with and guided us through; Papa's video, bulletin board and everything that he set up to make our burden lighter.

We also want to acknowledge Hospice Chaplain Lorin Little, whose words of prayer and comfort were appreciated by all. His hospice nurse, Lori Herrmann, who was so compassionate and offered us hugs and many words of comfort — you are truly an angel sent from Heaven.

The Meadville VFW who provided the military honors at the cemetery and the issuance of the flag — although it brought us all to tears, it also lifted our hearts to Dad in Heaven.

We also want to acknowledge Jeanne Smith. She sang, "You Are My Sunshine" to him on his 90th birthday this past Feb. 18th, which he really enjoyed smiling the whole time.

Lastly, Jean and Bill Beatty, who always surprised Papa with your wonderful homemade lemon pies and Christmas cookies that he so enjoyed.

In our grief and sorrow, we forgot to have this poem displayed or recited at Papa's service. It was written by his mother, Dorothy Emig, when he was a soldier during the Korean War.

When you were just a little boy

You filled my heart with pride and joy.

I had so many plans, you see

Of what I wanted my son to be.

I wanted him to be so strong.

And know the difference between right and wrong.

To lend a helping hand when needed.

And not let God's word go unheeded.

I wanted not the most in wealth.

But the very best in good sound health.

Happiness, friends and a love so true

Are what I wanted just for you.

But now that you are far away,

Where danger haunts you night and day.

I pray to the Lord, the God above,

Please keep him safe, the son I love.

And he was kept safe for 90 years.

You will be in our hearts forever, Papa. We love you beyond words.
