Betty G. McConnell
Betty met Harry while spending time at her family's summer farm in Cochranton. They spent a happy and successful life together. They owned and operated the former Isaly's Restaurant in Cochranton from 1955 to 1968. From 1968 until their retirement in 1987 Betty and Harry owned McConnell's Real Estate. Following retirement in 1987, Betty and her husband Harry spent 18 years wintering in Lake Placid, Florida.
Betty was a very accomplished porcelain, china painting artist. She was very active in the china painting community, serving as president of the Lake Placid, Florida China Painting Club. At her home in Cochranton and Florida she often hosted china painting seminars for her china painting friends. Her artwork will be permanently displayed at the Gannon University Library in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Betty enjoyed cooking with her husband, canning fruits and vegetables from their garden. She also stayed fit doing water aerobics in her pool.
Betty, along with her husband and son, was very philanthropic, establishing a scholarship endowment for students in Crawford County and Gannon University. Many Cochranton High School students received scholarships from the McConnell Family Endowment.
Betty loved getting together with her sisters and brother at reunions laughing and reminiscing. She was a member of Saint Mark's Church of Christ in Cochranton.
She is survived by her son, Dennis A. McConnell of La Jolla, California and several nieces and nephews. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Harry, four sisters, Odessa Graham, Annamae Neuscheler, Bernice Buckel, Sara Neuscheler, and brother Thomas Graham.
The family would like to thank Home Instead, Kevin Lippert, and Jane Butryn for their support over the years.
