Christine Marie Merchbaker
Christine Marie Merchbaker, age 49, of Cochranton passed away suddenly at her residence on April 25, 2019. She was born on January 20, 1970 in Greenville, PA to Joseph and Kathleen (Freeman) Nelson. She married William Douglas Merchbaker May 22, 1993. He survives.
Chris graduated from Meadville High School in 1988. She attended Virginia Tech University and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Edinboro University. She was an elementary teacher at First District Elementary in Meadville, PA.
Chris was of Catholic faith. She was very proud to be a YMCA swim team coach. She was on the Master's swim team. She was an avid swimmer earning state champion titles, she was a member of the VA TECH swim team and she was a national champion Master's swimmer. Chris also enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and biking. She was a member of the Moose Club #2505 and Station #4.
Christine is survived by her parents, Joe and Kathy Nelson; her husband, "Doug"; two sons, Douglas Joseph and Joshua John, both of Cochranton; one sister, Michele Renninger and her husband, James of Hartstown, Pa; two sister-in-laws, Beth Merchbaker of Meadville and Lynne Shiflett and her husband, Terry of Florida; one brother, Owen Nelson and his wife Jenelle of Meadville and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Family and friends are invited to call at Dickson Family Funeral Home 123 S. Franklin St. Cochranton, PA Monday, April 29 from 4-7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, April 30 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave Brumagin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the YMCA Swim Team, 356 Chestnut St. Meadville, PA 16335.
