Dan L. Willey, 69 of Lake City, passed away on Monday September 5, 2016 at the family camp, following a brief illness.
He was born April 16, 1947 in Guys Mills, PA., son of the late Arlo and Betty (Danforth) Willey.
Dan graduated from Maplewood High School in 1967. Following high school he was inducted into the US Army where he eventually deployed with Charlie Company, 69th Engineer Battalion to Vietnam. Following his tour of duty, he returned stateside and was discharged from the military, earning the National Defense Service Medal; the Vietnam Service Medal and The Vietnam Campaign Medal.
He began employment as a truck driver and later worked for Abex in the Meadville area and later became a Corrections Officer at the State Correctional Facility in Cambridge Springs. Dan retired from there in 2010.
He was a member of the Girard American Legion Post# 494 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #470 in Erie. The loves of his life were his family, spending time with them at camp, his grandchildren, hunting and fishing.
He will be greatly missed by his family which include his wife, Patricia (Bolger) Schwenk Willey, whom he married May 18, 2002 in Erie; also by two daughters, Diane E. Steffen (John) of Meadville, Tracy M. Earley (Patrick) of Girard; two sons, Lynn Willey (Jessie) of Killingworth CT, Jerome Schwenk (Debbie) of Girard; two sisters, Beverly Decker of NC, Linda Holobar of Meadville; one brother Jim Willey (Karen) also of Meadville; six grandchildren, Tyler, Morgan, Sarah, Ethan, Haley, and Maggie; his mother in law, Audrey Bolger Boyd of Fairview and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Edder Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Main St. East, Girard and are invited to attend services there on Friday at 10AM.
Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
