Darwin E. DuPont
Darwin graduated from Cochranton High School in 1960 and worked at the former Cochranton CO-OP from 1961 to 1972. He then worked at the former PPG plant in Meadville as a Packer for 31 years and retired in 2004.
In 1960 he was awarded star farmer for his dairy cow as an FFA member and also raised beef cattle.
He was a member of the Cochranton United Methodist Church and served as a trustee.
Darwin can be most remembered for his passion for girls' softball. For over 40 years he devoted his time in both the Cochranton and Randolph Township Little Leagues as a coach and mentor. He was instrumental in developing the fundamentals for girl's fast pitch and was always seen at the ballfields.
For the past 3 years he was the head coach of the Cochranton Girls' High School Softball team and was an assistant for several years.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Cindy Brumagin and her husband Rick of Guys Mills and Lisa Jackson and her husband Cory of Cochranton. Four grandchildren, Nicole George (Larry), Craig Brumagin (Samantha), Lacy Jackson and Brittany Jackson, and six great grandchildren, Damen Jackson, Eisley Brumagin, Isabella George, Asa Brumagin, Ayla Brumagin and Larry George IV.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and family will be received at the DICKSON FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 123 S. Franklin St. Cochranton on Saturday, November 24, from 2-4 and 7-9 and on Sunday at the Cochranton United Methodist Church from 1:15 until the funeral service beginning at 2:00pm with the Rev. Terry Shaughnessy and Rev. David Brumagin, officiating.
Interment will be in the Cochranton Cemetery.
Memorials can be made in Darwin's name to the Cochranton Athletic Boosters (C/O Girls Softball), 105 Second St. Cochranton, Cochranton Youth League, Cochranton Methodist Church, 114 Adams St., or to Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty St., Meadville.
