Dorthy Klinginsmith Bierman Flynn
February 26, 1925 - August 21, 2019
On August 21, 2019 at the age of 94, Dorthy gently slipped away from this world with her beloved family at her side. She resided at Gibson Creek Assisted Living in Salem, Oregon and had recently been on hospice care.
Dorthy loved life and lived it to the fullest. She placed a very high value on education and graduated from Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing, California State Teacher's College of Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Her many talents encompassed the culinary arts and entertaining, hand quilting, needlework and painting in multiple mediums. She enjoyed creative writing and wrote her autobiography. She had been a member of the Army Cadet Nurse Corps, the American Red Cross, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughter's of the American Revolution. She loved to travel and visited every country in the world she was curious about. She loved music of all kinds but especially hymns and often could be found softly singing them to herself. She had a sassy sense of humor and will be greatly missed by those who shared in her life.
Dorthy was born on the family farm in the Conneaut Lake area to the late Jenny and Holly Klinginsmith. She was the 6th of their 8 children and was preceded in death by all seven of her siblings: Merle, Donald, Norman, Karl, Lloyd, John and Ida (Seiple.) In 1944 she married her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life, Walter Junior Bierman and they had two children, Katrine and Kirk. Walter died at age 42 in 1967; Dorthy was married to D. Jack Flynn from 1984 until his death in 2008.
Dorthy is survived by her children, Katrine Bierman Smith (Guy ) of Salem, Oregon and Kirk Elliott Bierman (Cathy) of Everett, WA, grandchildren, Chelsea Bierman Jarett (Jason) and Mackenzie Bierman, and two great grandsons, Jackson and Jordon Jarett. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Dorthy's ashes will be interred in Evergreen Cemetery in Harmonsburg next to her husband Walter. A Celebration of Life is being planned closer to her birthday.
