E. 'Jonathan'  Jones
E. "Jonathan" Jones, 89 of Girard, went to be with his Lord on Saturday November 5, 2016.
Jonathan was born September 20, 1927 in Erie, a son of the late Edward L. and Cassie Smith Jones.
He graduated from Waterford High School in 1945. As America was at war, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska. Following WW II he returned to Girard upon his discharge from the military and attended Edinboro State Teachers College (Edinboro University), where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and later earned his Master's degree. He received his Principal's Certification from Westminster College and taught in the Albion School District and later science and math at Girard schools, retiring from there. In his retirement he drove trucks for Sylvan Sales and for Hornyak Concrete.
Jonathan was an active member of the Girard Alliance Church and was an Elder, a board member, and Head Usher there for many years. He was also a Youth Leader, taking kids on many trips. Some of his favorite hobbies were lathework, woodworking, welding, and photography. He became a professional photographer. He also volunteered for several short-term mission trips to St. Kitts in the Caribbean and Africa.
In addition to his parents, Jonathan was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Rose (Pertl) Jones on October 15th of this year, also his brothers, Lawrence "Larry" Jones, David Jones and Paul Jones.
He is survived by his devoted family which include his children, Janine J. Osborn (Timothy) of Pataskala OH, Judy J. Wuenschel (Gerald) of Girard, and Jerry Jonathan Jones (Marsha) of Springboro; half brothers James Jones of Townville, PA, Randy Jones (Bonnie) of Stevensville, MT ; grandchildren, Jonathan Jones (Lacey), Spencer Osborn and Bryan Wuenschel; four great grandchildren Rebekah, Rachel, Jeremiah, and Jesse; his sisters in law, Joan Jones of Girard and Martha Rickard of Girard, Mary Jane Jones of Falcon, NC, Susan Jones of MI also many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Thursday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm and again on Friday from 12 noon to the time of service at 1 pm at the Girard Alliance Church, 229 Rice Ave., Girard and are invited to attend services there on Friday with Rev. Clyde Davis. officiating.
Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to The Girard Alliance Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Edder Funeral Home, Inc., Girard.
