Elsie Jean Anthony
Elsie Jean Anthony, 88, of Venango passed away unexpectedly, at her home on Tuesday, March 12, 2019. Elsie was born on February 11, 1931, in Venango Township, the daughter of Charles Edwin Smith and Florence Mae Sherred Smith. On February 26, 1953, she married Gene Irvin Anthony, and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2013. For many years, Elsie worked at the Venango Inn and babysat for many neighboring families. She enjoyed bird watching, flower gardening, canning, and solving puzzles. She was a member of the Christ Evangelical Free Church in Saegertown.
In addition to her husband, Gene Irvin Anthony, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Reid Smith; and her grandson, Chris Walczyk.
Survivors include her son, Gene David Anthony, and his wife, Diane of Venango; her son, Mark Anthony and his wife, Michelle of Venango; her son, Gary Anthony and his wife, Valarie of Cayuga, NY; her daughter, Marleah Bradshaw and her husband, Loren of Venango; seven grandchildren - Heather Ruhl and her husband, Mark; Theresa Tatters and her husband, Charles; Pam Anthony and her wife, Sarah; Sarah Drumheller and her husband, Skyler; Mary Anthony; Jeannine Walczyk and her companion, Jason Evener; and Jennette Walczyk and her companion, Jeff Thornton; eleven great grandchildren - Jarrott, Hailley, Joscelyn, Jaron, Tessa, Alissa, Jamesian, JaNetta, Silas, Irie, and Elijah; her sister, Donna Smith of Venango; her brother, Ralph Smith of Venango; her brother, Harry Smith of West Springfield; her sister-in-law, Robin Smith; a special niece and nephew, Chuck and Deb Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Friday, March 15, 2019, from 3 to 7 p.m. and are invited to a funeral service to be held there on Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Jeff Wilson of Christ Evangelical Church of Saegertown officiating. Interment will be at Venango Cemetery.
