Frederick James Mailliard
Frederick "Fred" James Mailliard passed away unexpectedly at Meadville Medical Center on March 16, 2019, after a three-year battle with cancer.
Fred was born on May 18, 1941, in a small farmhouse in Cochranton to Alfred and Bernice (Hart) Mailliard.
He attended a-one room schoolhouse on Townhall Road and then graduated from Cochranton High School in 1958. Fred married Peggy Ann Litwiler on November 16, 1963, she survives.
He was a member of Mumford Chapel Church in Cochranton. Fred was an avid hunter, fisherman, especially ice fishing and loved carpentry and roofing. Fred loved his family, friends and grandkids and enjoyed spending his time in the summer camping. He spent some of his early adult years grinding feed at various farms and served our country in the Army Reserves, He was honorably discharged from the Army and started employment at Channellock. After a short time at Channellock, he began work at PPG In 1970 and retired after 34 years in 2004, While at PPG, he held the record for number of overtime hours worked, spending many 16-hour shifts there. Anyone who knew Fred knew his work ethic was second to none.
Fred leaves behind his loving wife, Peggy, of 55 years and three sons, Michael (Ina) Mailliard, Mark (Andrea) Mailliard and Marti Mailliard. Also a brother, William (Bill) Mailliard, sister Betty Kinley, sister-in-law Linda Litwiler, sister-in-law Joan Powell, brother-in-law Richard Powell and many nieces and nephews. Fred also leaves behind nine grandkids, Megan and Austin Mailliard; Avery Alexys, Emma and Anna Mailliard: and Molly, Jacob and Benjamin Giliberto.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Alfred and Bernice Mailliard, brother Robert Mailliard, sister Dorothy Cochran, sister-in-law Blossom (Kainoa) Mailliard, brother-in-law Gary Kinley, granddaughter Kaitlyn Maillard, mother-in-law Emma Litwiler, father-in-law Paul Litwiler and brother-in-law Thomas Litwiler.
Calling hours will be at Dickson's Funeral Home 123 S. Franklin Street, Cochranton on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the funeral at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Miller presiding, followed by the Interment at Cochranton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute in Meadville. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Doctor Han, Nurse Holly, the nursing staff and volunteers who helped Fred these past three years with his courageous fight.
