Geoffrey Allan Turk Obituary

Geoffrey Allan Turk, 52, of Crofton, Maryland, died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, May 9.


He had been a history teacher for 25 years.


Geoff was born in Meadville, Pennsylvania on August 11, 1971. He graduated from Allegheny College in 1994, and obtained master's degrees from Ohio University in 1995 and the University of Cincinnati in 2000. Following in his father's footsteps, he began a lifelong career teaching history. He taught in Cincinnati at Western Hills High School and Batavia High School from 1999-2006 before moving to Maryland where he taught at Arundel High School for more than 17 years. He also was a hockey and golf coach, most recently at Arundel.


Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 15 years, Gail (Cohen) and daughter Elliana; parents Richard and Anne Turk of Meadville, PA; brother Robert (Sheila) of Severna Park, MD; two aunts; one uncle; four nieces; one nephew; and several cousins.


A funeral service will be held at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road, Gambrills, MD. at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, officiated by Geoff's close friend from Cincinnati, Fred Reeder Jr.


In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to either LivingStone Community or Allegheny College. Gifts to LivingStone Community will be for a scholarship in Geoff's name to send a young student from Africa to an international training event this summer.
