John H. Esterly, Jr. Obituary

John H. Esterly, Jr., 87, of Meadville, passed away, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Edinboro Manor. He was born on February 3, 1937 in Meadville a son of John H. Esterly, Sr. and Constance Hurley Esterly.


He was a 1955 graduate of Meadville High School and he served his country in the US Navy.


John was employed as a tool maker at Talon and various tool shops in the area and was a member of Denny Chapel. He enjoyed attending stock car racing events with the Hollabaugh's.


He was the past president of Black Ash Sportsman Club, cooked meals for families in need at the YMCA on Thanksgiving and Christmas for over 20 years, a founding member of Meadville Little Gridders, coached and umpired little league, a board member for the Vernon Township Sewer Authority for many years, and donated time to Vietnam Vets Post 52.


John is survived by two sons, John H. Esterly III and Michael D. Esterly both of Meadville; a daughter Sue Anne Parrish (Michael) of New Jersey; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; a sister, Kathy Strickland (Doug) of Virginia; and a brother, Eric Esterly of Cambridge Springs.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, David and James Esterly.


There will be no services held at this time.
