Marilyn W. Shannon, 95 of Meadville, formerly of Whispering Pines, NC for 25 years, passed away on January 19, 2024 at Wesbury Retirement Community. Marilyn was born in Meadville on August 21, 1928 to the late Henry and Mnetha (Lenhart) Werley. She was a 1946 graduate of Meadville High School and a 1950 graduate of Allegheny College earning her Bachelors in History and English.

While at Allegheny she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was also a former member of Hillside Home and Bethesda Presbyterian Church in North Carolina. Marilyn was currently a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Meadville where she served as a Deacon, Elder, and Trustee. She enjoyed golfing in her earlier years. Marilyn was a teacher at Crawford Central School District for 32 years, retiring in 1982.

Marilyn married her beloved husband, Robert G. Shannon, on December 20, 1952. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2019.

Left to cherish her memory are her many nieces and nephews: Daniel (Shelly) Smith of Meadville; Kathleen (Dan) Hootman of Linesville; John (Bertie) Werley of Pittsburgh; Scot (Karen) Werley of Pittsburgh; Michael (Lynn) Werley of Pittsburgh; David (Jonette) Werley of Pittsburgh; Greg (Linda) Hoffman of Martinsburg, WV; and Barbara Huey of Oil City, brother: Edward (Carolyn) Pittsburgh, as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her sister Noreen Stein.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, INC. 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville, where visitation will be from 11 am - 1 pm on Saturday, January 27, a funeral service will follow at 1 pm with the Rev. Dr. Dan Corll, interim Pastor at First Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery.

Memorials can be made in Marilyn's name to the Meadville Public Library or the First Presbyterian Church, Meadville.
