Mildred Lillian Ott
Mildred Lillian Fry Ott, age 99, went to be with our Lord on Friday, September 27, 2019. She was born in Pittsburgh in 1920 the daughter of Lowers L. and Mathilda Fry. Her mother died when she was five and later her father married Jane Reed, who became her mother whom she adored. Millie married George E. Ott on May 23, 1941. He preceded her in death in May of 1994.
She was a graduate of Peabody High School and Iron City Business College. She worked at Melon Bank in downtown Pittsburgh in the Tax and Securities Department and eventually directed the Securities department until her retirement in 1980. Her favorite position, however, was a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker and was especially known for baking her delicious pies and cookies. She was known to so many who loved her as a Gram and to her Fry family as Sis and Aunt Sis. Millie also enjoyed playing Bridge, was an avid reader and loved to travel. She and her family traversed the USA and she loved showing her children and grands all our country's beautiful sites.
After being a lifelong resident of her beloved Pittsburgh, she moved to Meadville in 1995 and she began traveling the world with family and friends. Millie loved her travels to Scotland with the special group from church, to Europe, Asia, Israel, Egypt and Russia. She made sure each grandchild journeyed with her on a grand tour to a special destination. She became a snowbird in 2013 and lived in Punta Gorda, Florida where she made many friends in Blue Heron Pines.
She was formerly a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church, a current member of Meadville First Presbyterian Church. She led the Women's Bible study for many years and was a member of Joy Circle. Millie was also a past treasurer of Presbyterian Women and a past member of Meadville Women's Club.
Millie was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert G. Ott in October 1991; her brothers, Thomas Fry and William Fry; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Young and Margaret Wachter.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna and her husband, Bill Putney of Meadville; grandson, Sean Putney (Cyndie) of Kansas City, MO; granddaughter, Heather Johnson (Marc) of Cincinnati, OH; grandson, David Ott of San Diego, Calif.; granddaughter, Lindsey Ott of Washington, D.C.; great grandchildren, Tyler Putney (Lisa); Joshua Putney; Will Johnson and Hope Johnson; great-great-grandson, Logan Putney; brother, Donald Fry and many nieces and nephews.
