Susan Eileen Klinginsmith Obituary

Summerville, S.C. - Susan Eileen Klinginsmith of Summerville, S.C., born Suzan, known lovingly to family and friends as Sue and Suzie, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, at the age of 81, in her home surrounded by the family she cherished.

Born in Meadville, Pennsylvania, and raised in Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania, Susan was the daughter of Clarence Ramsay "Tiny" Griggs and Margaret Elizabeth Devenny. She carried the warmth of her upbringing throughout her entire life.

Susan built a dedicated career with GTE — now known as Verizon — serving 21 years before retiring. But it was the life she built outside of work that truly defined her. A devoted Christian, Susan found deep joy in studying the Bible and in prayer. She was an avid birdwatcher and gardener, and above all, she treasured time with her family especially her great-grandchildren, whose presence lit her up like nothing else.

Those who knew Susan would tell you she had a gift for people. She was warm, attentive and always asking about others before herself. She never passed up an opportunity to help someone in need, and she had a quiet but unmistakable strength. Susan was a peacekeeper in every sense — she valued harmony in her home and in her relationships, and she had little patience for conflict. If a conversation started heading somewhere it shouldn't, she had a signature way of putting a stop to it: "Don't go there!" Her words and wisdom were a source of comfort and strength to all who who were fortunate enough to know her.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Barbara Ann, Clarence Henry "Skip," and Rhona Jean.

She is survived by her former husband of 60 years, Ronald Klinginsmith; her sons, Troy and Todd Klinginsmith; her grandchildren, Crystal and Andrew Hollihan, Vaughn Klinginsmith, Christopher and Andi Klinginsmith, and Brandon and Heather Schrumpf; her 17 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Judith Ann Tokich.

In lieu of a formal service, Susan's family gathered together the day after her passing to celebrate her life over a shared meal - a fitting tribute to a woman who believed there was no better place to be than around a table with the people you live.

"Don't go there!" and so she didn't. She left this world the way she lived in it: peacefully, surrounded by love.
