Cambridge Springs, PA - Sylvia Rose Hodak, 95, of Cambridge Springs, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Wesbury. Born April 2, 1930, in LeBoeuf Township, she was the daughter of the late Alton Glen McClafferty and Blanche Isabelle Matthews McClafferty. Sylvia graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948. On June 15, 1950, she married Arnold William Hodak. Together they shared fifty-two years of loving marriage until his passing on May 18, 2002. Sylvia was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family. She was an exceptional cook and baker and was especially known for her homemade applesauce. She enjoyed sewing and had a special fondness for animals, particularly birds.


In addition to her husband Arnold Hodak, she was preceded in death by son-in-law, Duane Dunton on March 5, 1984, and son-in-law Dennis Dunton on May 20, 2019.


She is survived by her son, Gregory Hodak of Cambridge Springs; daughters, Bonnie Dunton of Cambridge Springs and Cynthia Dunton of Venango; grandchildren, Jerred Hodak and his wife Amy of Corry, Jennifer Stone of Summersville, SC, Michael Hodak and his wife Rita of McKean, David Dunton and his wife Becky of Cambridge Springs, Rebecca Plavisty of Cambridge Springs, Jesse Dunton of Venango, Luke Dunton and his wife Wendy of Palmyra, VA, and Danielle Dunton of Erie; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Virginia Nevogt of Louisville, KY; and many nieces and nephews.


Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Sunday, March 8, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Monday, March 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the CMA Church in Cambridge Springs with the Reverend Delroy Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Cambridge Springs Cemetery.
