Cambridge Springs - Thomas G. Hobson, 89, of Cambridge Springs passed away at his residence on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Tom was born in Meadville on June 12, 1936, son of the late Dr. John P. Hobson, Sr. and Anna Lucille Thomas Hobson. He graduated from Cambridge Springs High School with the class of 1954, receiving his bachelor's degree from Penn State University in 1958, and his master's from West Virginia University in 1964. On June 14, 1958, he married the former Lucille Holowach, and she preceded him in death on June 21, 2012. Tom was a beloved health and physical education teacher at Cambridge Springs High School for over thirty-four years, retiring in 1992. While teaching at Cambridge Springs High School, he also served as the Athletic Director for twenty-nine years, coached varsity baseball and basketball, junior high boys' and girls' basketball, and junior high football. Tom supervised the Penncrest Summer Youth program and helped initiate Cambridge Springs High School Hall of Fame. One of Tom's proudest accomplishments was being a charter member of CAVAS. In addition to his lifetime CAVAS membership, he was a certified EMT for over ten years, a longtime member of Kiwanis Club and the Key Club advisor, served on the Cambridge Springs Borough Municipal Authority and as the former Cambridge Springs Mayor. He was an active long-term member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Cambridge Springs. Tom was a devoted husband and father and mentor to his grandchildren.


In addition to his wife, Lucille Hobson, Tom was preceded in death by his brother John Hobson, brother Harry Hobson, and brother Robert Hobson.


Survivors include son Thomas Gregory (Greg) Hobson, Jr. of Cambridge Springs, son Terrance Patrick Hobson and his wife Lisa of Denver, NC, son John Stephen (Jack) Hobson and his wife Kathy of Cambridge Springs, son Bryan Michael Hobson and his wife Julie of Cambridge Springs, daughter Michelle Yvonne Wetzel and her husband Steve of Clover, SC, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and brother Vincent Hobson and his wife Sandy of Holliston, MA.


Friends may call on Sunday, October 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Van Matre Funeral Home, Cambridge Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 13, at 10 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Cambridge Springs with the Rev. Fr. Mark Hoffman as celebrant. Interment will follow at Cambridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1128 State Street, Erie, PA 16501 or the St Anthony's memorial fund.
