Wanita G. Kennedy Obituary

Wanita Gail (Snyder) Kennedy, 91 of Edinboro, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at UPMC Hamot. She was born in California, PA on Aug. 7, 1932 the daughter of the late William Gale Snyder and Mary Edna Snyder.


Wanita graduated from California Community High School in 1950 and received a degree in accounting from Penn Commercial College. She began her working career as a secretary at Vesta-Shannopin Coal Division of Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation. Upon moving to Edinboro in 1963, Wanita became the branch manager of National Bank of Northeast and then later Community National Bank in Edinboro.


On November 14, 1953 she married her childhood friend and neighbor, James R. Kennedy. Her marriage and family was the love and joy of her life.


Wanita belonged to First United Presbyterian Church in Edinboro, the Edinboro Book Club and Eastern Star. She enjoyed crewel embroidery, reading and jigsaw puzzles.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, James; three infant brothers, and a brother-in-law, Donald Corbett.


She is survived by three daughters, Terri (Richard) Lyons of Meadville, Lianne (Randy) Walker of Edinboro and Pat Kennedy of McKean; three grandchildren, Nathan (Katie) Lyons, Sara (Josh) Brady and Hannah (Dan) Crosby; two great granddaughters, Cora and Alice Crosby; two sisters, Donna R. (John) Duvall and Carol Sue Corbett; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.


Friends may call at First United Presbyterian Church of Edinboro, 4281 East Route 6N, Edinboro, PA on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 2 to 5 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m. The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is entrusted with funeral arrangements.


The family wants to thank the nursing staff at UPMC Hamot 6 South and the Palliative Care Team for their compassionate and exemplary care of Wanita and her family. The family would also like to thank her friends and neighbors for their help in her being able to remain at home. A special thanks to her friend and caregiver, Debbie Shearer.
